Supporting our Community

Success for SPS isn’t just about logistics; it’s about people, within SPS and in the local community.

Building positive relationships with our neighbours and the local community is important to us and we support numerous local organisations and charities throughout the year. Some examples include:

  • Easter Egg Donation campaign for Lavender Court Care Home in Taunton. Colleagues from across the business donated over 100 chocolates eggs to bring a smile to those residents  who could not spend Easter with their family.
  • Community litter pick in 5 different children’s parks in Bridgwater. We cleared numerous bags of litter ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for the children to play in. By helping to clean up our local areas, we contribute to a healthier and safer environment, protect wildlife, and enhance our community.
  • Developed and delivered  a road safety workshop for students in a local school.
  • Annual donation of Christmas sacks to the Trussell Trust Foodbank in Bridgwater for local families in crisis.
  • Provision of pro bono transport for Stogursey Primary School’s Summer excursion.
  • Support of the annual  Quantock Walking Festival by transporting walkers to and from their start and end points.
  • Raising over £20,000 for various charities through company wide and individual colleague challenges.

Our dedication to supporting the local community and charities reflects our mission to make a positive impact beyond business endeavours. By engaging in initiatives like these, SPS strives to foster a culture of compassion and generosity within the community we serve.

The SPS Drive Academy

We provide a huge number of employment pathways for the people of Somerset, offering excellent opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing experience. We have already created over hundreds of jobs within the region and expect to create hundreds more over the next few years in a variety of roles.

Our new SPS Drive Academy ensures all key roles at SPS have a successor and that colleagues are supported and upskilled to fulfill more senior roles in the future through a personalised plan.

With one eye on the future, we are upskilling our colleagues to ensure that when the peak of the Hinkley Point C project ends, we have a skilled workforce who are ready for the next stage in their careers and who can transfer those skills to the local business community.

Our Environment

We aim to maintain a positive impact on the surrounding environments and communities in which we operate with regards to environmental assurance, risk management, waste management and energy efficiency. To do this…

  • We operate only Euro VI diesel powered engines which produce up to 8 times less Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions than Euro V vehicles. Operating vehicles to this standard ensures we positively impact air quality.
  • New technology enables us to analyse driving styles and how these can be enhanced to improve vehicle performance and increase fleet efficiency. Notable improvements can be identified in mileage and mpg, plus the ability to identify abnormal fuel usage and therefore reduce carbon emissions.
  • Our new geofenced low bridge warning system has enabled us to replace coaches with double deckers on various services reducing the number of vehicles required, saving thousands of miles of travel and reducing CO2 emissions.
