SPS Parking Supervisor’s Charity Challenge

Parking Supervisor, Liam Groves, is running the Weston Super Mare Half Marathon to raise money for Mind in Somerset

Liam, who has been part of the SPS team since 2018,  will run the 13.1 mile event on Sunday 17 October this year!

Liam has experienced first hand the fantastic work that Mind do and is passionate about raising awareness of how they can support anyone suffering with mental health issues.

He said:

“Like many people, over the last 12-18 months I have seen my mental health suffer and until I was in that situation I never appreciated how debilitating it can be to your life and those around you. I suffered with anxiety and found simple day to day tasks hard to complete. It affected my home life and my career and I was at a real low. I am proud to say that I am one of the lucky ones that came out the other side but many don’t.

Running has been one of the ways I have been able to accept and manage my anxiety, so I thought taking on my first ever running event would be an apt way to fundraise.

The Employee Assistance Program at SPS was another key support to getting me back to work. They provide a free confidential helpline to support all colleagues 24 hours a day.

I feel it is important to turn my experience into a positive one and help raise awareness of the great work that charities such as Mind in Somerset do.

Mind in Somerset are able to provide guidance and advice on how to seek support to people suffering with mental health issues.

I would really appreciate your support with my running challenge and would be extremely grateful for any donations towards fundraising for Mind in Somerset”.
