Let’s meet Compliance Manager – Martin Day.
Tell us a bit about your role at SPS…
In my role as Compliance Manager, I am in charge of the vehicle fleet ensuring compliance with the undertakings set by the Traffic Commissioner with reference to our Operator Licence. I undertake Planning Monthly Inspections, MoT’s, Tachograph Calibrations, Road Fund Licence (Tax) and Vehicle Servicing as per the manufacture’s guidelines. I am also responsible for the Auditing Inspection / Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) paperwork. I ensure drivers are compliant with Driving Licence Auditing and EU driver’s hours.
I enjoy my role at SPS – I’ve been interested in buses since the age of 5 (bus geek). No two days at SPS are the same. It can be a challenge at times but there’s always a solution. I look forward to a bright future at SPS.
What did you do before coming to SPS?
I have covered a number of other roles at SPS within my 7 year term – Operations Manager, Scheduler, Transport Manager and Head of Operations. Before joining SPS I worked for National Express as a Driver for approx. 6+ years and progressed to Controller, Forward Allocator and Scheduling & Efficiency Manager. I also had a spell working for G4S Securicor as an ATM Security Operative and with DPD in Birmingham dealing with 300+ trailer arrivals / departures from their main logistics hub.
What do you like to get up to when you’re not working?
When I’m not at work I tend to do a lot of DIY – electrics & plumbing. I’m currently working on a project installing an en-suite.
What’s your favourite biscuit?
As everyone knows, I can’t resist chocolate or biscuits, I have a biscuit barrel (box) in the office.
